As his repeated appeals to official machinery seeking permission for desilting a waterbody with his personal funds failed to evoke any response, former Minister and Palayamkottai MLA T.P.M. Mohideen Khan of the DMK has said he will approach court for a direction to the officials concerned.

In a memorandum forwarded to Collector Sandeep Nanduri, Mr. Khan said he had submitted proposals on three occasions (June 30, July 6 and August 8) seeking permission for desilting Kannimar tank near Melapalayam with his personal funds and help of a non-governmental organisation.

“However, I’m yet to receive any positive reply from the officials concerned. Hence I’ve decided to approach the people who elected me and the court for compelling the officials to give me permission for desilting the waterbody,” Mr. Mohideen Khan said.

He recalled that his earlier petitions seeking permission for desilting Palayam Channel for about 9 km had also been trashed, as the officials refused to grant permission, stating that the work would be executed by Public Works Department.

“However, before the channel was properly desilted, water has been released in it for ‘pisanam’ paddy cultivation. If this situation is allowed to continue, I’ll approach the people and mobilise them for getting permission for desilting irrigation tanks and channels,” Mr. Khan noted.
