Reiterating that nobody can destroy the DMK irrespective of what position the person holds, DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Sunday said his party would bring in a no-confidence motion against the Edappadi K. Palaniswami government in the Assembly session beginning Monday if an opportunity arises.

Mr. Stalin told reporters, “No one can destroy the DMK. No matter in what position and how powerful a person is, he can never even come close to us”. He was responding to a question about Union Minister of State for Finance Pon. Radhakrishnan’s reported statement that the final chapter of the DMK had begun.

Mr. Stalin, who is the Leader of the Opposition, denied the Chief Minister’s charge that he had not conveyed what transpired between them during a telephonic conversation they had on Saturday on the ongoing strike by transport corporation workers’ unions.

The Chief Minister, in a statement on Sunday, said, “I had also asked the Leader of the Opposition to urge the striking unions to withdraw the strike and return to work.” But Mr. Stalin said, “I had told the Chief Minister that he should call and talk to transport workers personally. May be he is trying to hide that fact.”

The DMK leader also said that credible steps were being taken to strengthen his party.

On Sunday morning, at a meeting with district secretaries of the party, 11 resolutions were passed. The meeting congratulated Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi and former Union Telecom Minister A. Raja on their acquittal in the 2G case; sought the intervention of the Chief Minister to end the transport strike; and urged the government to provide compensation to those affected by Cyclone Ockhi.

Among other resolutions, the party urged the Centre to put an end to the inspections being undertaken by the Tamil Nadu Governor pointing out that it was against the State’s autonomy and an infringement of the State government’s rights.

The DMK also sought a relook at the triple talaq Bill to allay the fears of the Muslim community over the criminal provisions. The party called for a review of the National Medical Commission Bill and the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act.

A two-day conference will be held in Erode on March 24 and 25 to discuss State autonomy, social justice and communal harmony. A meeting of the DMK legislators was also held.
