Nilgiri Langur strays into library premises

March 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Udhagamandalam:

A Nilgiri Langur created a flutter at The Nilgiri Library here on Wednesday.

Speaking to The Hindu, Library president Geetha Srinivasan said that the simian was spotted by the library staff sitting on one of the tree branches trying to shield itself from a number of crows which were trying to peck it.

On information, the forest department alerted N. Sadiq Ali of the Wildlife and Nature Conservation Trust and S.Jayachandran of the Tamil Nadu Green Movement.

Tranquilizer

However since it was perched at a considerable height it was decided not to dart it with a tranquilizer.

Adverting to its habits, the Library management was informed by the conservationists that it would move back to its habitat after dusk.

Forest officials said that a guard would be posted to monitor its movements.
