A new Multi System Operator (MSO), promoted by Dhayaanithi Alagiri, son of Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers M.K. Alagiri, was launched here on Wednesday.
“There are 17 lakh connections in the Metropolitan area and we are seeking to cover them in a phased manner,” Mr. Dhayaanithi, director of the JAK Communications Private Ltd, told reporters.
The company has invested Rs.50 crore in the project and soon will begin commercial network operations in the CAS (Conditional Access System).
Mr. Alagiri launched the operations and his wife Kandhi Alagiri lit the lamp.
“We are technologically superior and have a competitive price,” claimed Jayaraman Kamalesh, another director of the company. Of the 228 channels to be offered by the company, 84 are analog and the rest will be digital channels.
It has obtained rights to lay underground cables covering 200 km and it will be done through rail net.
Apart from the supply of TV signals the company has plans to introduce a number of value-added services such as video on demand, astrology, shopping, online ticketing and e-mails.
Asked how they were going to penetrate the market, Mr. Dhayaanithi said everyone started a business with a dream. “We also have a dream. There are many cell-phone service operators in the market. Still new people are entering,” he pointed out.
Asked about the tariff , he said it would be competitive. “We are negotiating with the cable TV operators and we expect their cooperation,” he added.
