The Madras High Court Bench in Madurai on Wednesday granted bail to Pazha Nedumaran, president of Ulaga Tamilar Peramaippu Trust, and 80 others, in a case registered by the Thanjavur police for protesting against the demolition of a portion of the compound wall of the Mullivaikal Martyrs Memorial.
In his order, Justice C.T. Selvam directed the petitioners to appear before the police whenever required.
The petitioners were booked under Section 147 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapons), 447 (trespass), 506 (II) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and under Tamil Nadu Public Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act.
On Wednesday, Justice Selvam also granted anticipatory bail to M. Natarajan of Parisutham Nagar in Thanjavur, and his brother M. Swaminathan in a case filed by the Thanjavur police.
