National award for VOC Port

V.O. Chidambaranar Port, Thoothukudi has bagged the national award for ‘Excellence in Cost Management for the year 2015’ from The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI) in the public service sector-small category. It is a matter of pride that the Port received the award for the third time.

Earlier, the Port had received the award in 2008 and in 2012.

According to a statement from the VOC Port Trust here on Thursday, the award was given for exemplary performance of the V.O.C Port towards optimization of manpower, savings in electricity, implementation of solar energy systems, reduction of overall cost of handling by mechanisation and improvising efficiency, and logistics support.

On behalf of the Port, P. Balan, Senior Accounts Officer and Rajamanickam, Accounts Officer Grade-I, received the award from Najib Shah, Chairman of the Central Board of Excise and Customs, at a programme in New Delhi on May 28.

The ICAI, a statutory body under an Act of Parliament, presents awards for excellence in cost management to promote and recognize cost management practices in the corporate sector. The awards under various categories were selected by a jury panel headed by former Chief Justice of India V.N.Khare, and persons of eminence from Industry, Government, Judiciary and financial management professionals.
