Union Minister of State for the Prime Minister’s Office V. Narayanasamy said that the Puducherry Government needs to withdraw the hike in electricity rates.
The electricity tariff, which was lower than most of the other States, has been slowly raised after the NR Congress assumed power.
There was no basis for the recent increase in the tariff, he said in a statement issued on Sunday.
Speaking on the AFT mill issue, he said the government has to take necessary steps to reopen the mill.
The Centre was ready to extend assistance, but the State government had not submitted a proposal for it. The government has to work the proposal, he added.
Ever since the NR Government took over, several industrial units had closed down. The government itself had promised to reopen the mill when they took charge, but had failed to make any concrete steps in that direction.
On police reforms meeting, Mr. Narayanasamy said the UT police needed to explain to the Ministry of Home Affairs why the senior officials stayed away from the meeting on police reforms convened by the MHA.
He also criticised the Chief Minister for not attending the meeting and said the decision to not attend was unfortunate.
