The Akila India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) on Sunday urged Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to take steps to name the newly developed airport complex after former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran while retaining the name of former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj for the domestic terminus and that of C.N. Annadurai for the international terminus.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting of the party here to mark the birth anniversary of K. Kamaraj and distribution of assistance to the poor. R. Sarathkumar, president of AISMK, presided over the meeting, which was held on Island ground here.
R. Sarathkumar, president of AISMK, recalled that his party had conducted a demonstration in Tirunelveli and a conference in favour of the Kundakulam Nuclear Power Project. Now with the first unit of the project going critical, the entire power to be generated from two units should be given to Tamil Nadu, he demanded.
The party passed a resolution urging the Union government to exempt the State from the purview of Food Security Bill.
Another resolution also called upon the State government to keep retail outlets of Tasmac to sell liquor between 5 pm and 10 pm.
