Two persons belonging to Krishnagiri district were injured when a gang from Karnataka shot at them near Oppachipalli in Krishangiri district on Friday night.

Police said P. Ravi and his friend A. Thimmarayappa of Aalur village near Bagalur in Krishnagiri district were returning from a hospital in Karnataka after visiting their ailing relative. Their vehicle was closely followed by the gang. When they were approaching Oppchipalli, the gang overtook their vehicle and started firing at them.

People rushed to the spot on hearing the gunshots, but the gang escaped. Ravi sustained injuries in his leg and hand and Thimmarayappa was injured in the shoulder. Both were immediately shifted to the private hospital in Bangalore.

Police suspect that the attack was in retaliation to Ravi identifying the accused in a case relating to a murder that took place two months ago and was registered in Malur Police station in Karnataka.

Two months ago, the body of a woman Thimmakka (65) was found in a sack near Uthanapalli. During the investigation, it was found that the woman was a relative of Ravi.

Ravi lodged a complaint with the Malur Police and later had identified the accused at an identification parade.
