Murder case booked against SI

The Crime Branch CID of the State police that is investigating the gunning down of an accused in the SP Pattinam police station in the district last October has registered a murder case against Sub-Inspector of Police A. Kalidass.

Two months after Judicial Magistrate II, N Veluchamy completed the Magisterial enquiry and submitted his report to the investigating officer, the CB-CID altered the Section from 176 (1A) (custodial death under suspicious circumstances) to a case of murder. Explaining the reasons for altering the section,

The CB-CID submitted that the SI’s claim that he had shot the accused dead in self-defence during interrogation at the police station was not sustainable.
