Murder accused, who jumped bail, held after 8 years

A youth, an accused in the murder of Nagarajan alias Putheri Nagarajan in 2000, who jumped bail subsequently, was arrested here on Sunday by a special police team.

Putheri Nagarajan, an antisocial element, was murdered by a gang and his body was buried in Kasturi Rengapuram in Thisayanvilai in Tiruneveli district. Thisayanvilai police had registered a case against 14 persons, including Kalai (36) of Thirupathisagaram near Nagercoil.

Kalai was arrested in connection with the murder, and was later released on bail. He jumped bail in 2009 and had been absconding ever since.

The special police team handed him over to Thisayanvilai police on Sunday, sources said.
