Last month, ₹11 crore was collected as fine from private institutions, companies and shopping complexes across the State for failing to check on mosquito breeding sources on their premises, said Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar.

The Minister visited various government medical institutions and held review meeting with district officials in Tiruvannamalai district on Friday.

He said that there was a fall in the number of fever and dengue cases in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Salem and Tiruvannamalai districts.

The declining trend had also begun in a number of other districts.

For instance, the number of patients admitted to the Government Tiruvannamalai Medical College and Hospital with fever was 160 last month.

Now, 99 patients with fever had been admitted, of which 10 tested positive for dengue.

Among the 10 patients, only one person had extreme symptoms such as bleeding.
