The State Government has sanctioned Rs. 70 lakh for improving facilities at two graveyards in the corporation limits.

At a recently held meeting in Chennai for allotting funds under the Infrastructure Gap Filling Fund and Operation and Maintenance Gap Filling Fund for 2014-15, the Common Committee sanctioned the sum as grant for improving the basic amenities in the graveyard near the Erumapalayam Main Road in Ward 44 and in graveyard in Kondalampatti in Ward 52.

The funds would be used to create titled floors, provide adequate drinking water facility and sheds in the premises. The City Municipal Corporation had earlier submitted the proposal for improving the facilities in the graveyard.

Officials said that tender process would be initiated and work order would be issued for starting the work at the earliest.
