‘MISA’ Pandian arrested

MADURAI

Madurai City police on Sunday arrested former Madurai Corporation Deputy Mayor ‘MISA’ Pandian (59) on a charge of harassing a woman employee of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, working at Sri Pandi Muneeswarar Temple along Ring Road on August 2.

The police said Pandian, who was also the presidium chairman of the DMK’s Madurai City South unit, was lodged at Madurai Central Prison after being remanded in judicial custody by a magistrate court.

The case against Pandian was that he picked a quarrel with the women employee, Yazhini, when he had gone there to offer prayers.

He was booked for using abusive language, preventing a government servant from discharging her duty, criminal intimidation and under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.

He was picked up by the police on Sunday morning.
