A minor offender escaped from police when he was being brought back to the Borstal school at Nanguneri after being produced in a court here on Tuesday.

Police sources said A. Kalidas (20) of Keezha Parambur near Alangulam was arrested in March last after he kidnapped a 16-year-old girl on the promise of marrying her. However, he was arrested after the girl was rescued. He had been lodged in the Nanguneri Borstal school.

After being produced before the Mahila Court here on Tuesday, Kalidas was being taken back to the Borstal school by two policemen. On alighting from the bus at Nanguneri bus stop in the evening, Kalidas pushed down the policemen on the ground and escaped. Though the policemen tried to nab him, Kalidas made good his escape.

The policemen who escorted the minor offender might be placed under suspension, the sources added.
