Minor fire in train wagon put out

The minor fire spotted in one of the wagons of the coal-laden goods train was put out near the Bommidi Railway Station in the Jolarpettai – Salem section on Friday evening.

The goods train was transporting coal from Atthipattu near Chennai to Mettur Thermal Power Station. After the train crossed Bommidi railway station, smoke was spotted in one of the wagons.

Fire service personnel from Dharmapuri rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

Heat

Railway sources said that the coal stock in one of the wagons got ignited due to the extreme heat.

The goods train later left for Mettur after a detention of about two hours.

Regular train services were continued without any interruption on this section, the sources added.
