Dairy Development Minister U. Mathivanan on Wednesday appealed to milk producers in Tamil Nadu to end their ongoing strike for higher procurement price for milk. Replying to supplementaries during question hour, he said it was only on January 5 that the procurement price had been raised. Tamil Nadu was procuring milk at the highest price in the country, he said.

As a result of the last hike, cow's milk was being bought for Rs. 16.50 and buffalo's milk for Rs. 25.20, Mr. Mathivanan said.

Taking note of the government's position, the producers should end their strike, he said.

With several members appealing to the Minister to invite the producers for talks, he said he would take note of their sentiments and consult the Chief Minister in this regard.
