Social Welfare Minister V. Saroja on Tuesday denied allegations that eggs were not being supplied in the noon meal scheme and said eggs were being provided to students in all anganwadis and schools covered under the scheme.

In a statement, Ms. Saroja said “The government is monitoring this scheme closely to ensure that there is no disruption despite the increase in price of eggs in the market. The allegations made by the leader of the opposition are completely baseless,” she said.

She also charged Mr. Stalin of engaging in political drama over the scheme. “There is already an agreement in place for August 2017-July 2018 for procurement of eggs and it is being supplied at the price agreed upon in the contract. Mr. Stalin is indulging in politics without understanding how these things work,” she said.

On Monday, Mr. Stalin had lashed out at the State government over reports that eggs were not being provided to students as part of the nutritious meal programme. He had also charged that there was corruption in the tendering process for procurement of eggs for the scheme.
