As the Corporation witnessed a spurt in dengue cases during northeast monsoon seasons in the past, a meeting to review the preparations made for carrying out anti-dengue operations in the urban civic body was organised here on Monday.

Chairing the meeting, Mayor E. Bhuvaneshwari said that no dengue case was reported from the corporation area during the monsoon last year, thanks to the precautionary measures taken by the urban local body such as fogging, mosquito source reduction and instant clearing of garbage. Similar operations should be continued this year too before and during the monsoon to prevent any dengue outbreak. Besides creating awareness programmes, sanitary inspectors should ensure timely removal of garbage and discarded containers carrying fresh water that would act as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

“Regular distribution of nilavembu concoction in all wards should be ensured during this monsoon,” Ms. Bhuvaneshwari said.

She said that ‘Makkalai thedi maanakaraatchi’ special camp would be organised for residents of wards from 31 to 33 on October 9.

The Mayor said that the 13,000 voters, whose names were yet to be deleted from the electoral rolls of Palayamkottai and Tirunelveli zones following their demise as the families concerned had not submitted Form 7, the officials should take steps for removing these names.

“Hence, the Corporation will conduct special camps for deleting these names from the electoral rolls. If the families concerned submit Form 7 during this camp, the corporation officials will immediately issue the death certificates to enable them to do so,” Ms. Bhuvaneshwari said.
