Medical camps were being conducted in various parts of Tuticorin and several flood victims had been screened.
Around 38,000 flood victims had been screened for fever and related ailments in 294 camps conducted since November 13 after rains, sources from Tuticorin Corporation told The Hindu here on Tuesday.
Besides, ‘nilavembu kudineer’ was served to around 88,000 people in various parts of Tuticorin.
In the prevailing situation here, the health officials had been closely monitoring public health.
Anti dengue operations were being carried out to prevent any outbreak. Disinfection measures, which include spreading of anti larval solution, bleaching powder and flaked lime powder on stagnant waters, were also being done to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.
Moreover, 2,000 oil balls have been dropped in the stagnant waters to control mosquito menace. To ensure supply of protected drinking water, chlorination was being done in tanks.
Further, sources said carcasses of 55 pigs, seven dogs and two calves were removed from the waterlogged localities of wards 2, 4, 5 and 6 under the Tuticorin Corporation limits.
