November 28, 2016 12:00 am | Updated December 02, 2016 05:56 pm IST - SALEM:

More than 150 personnel from the Armed Reserve Police and the Home Guards removed plastic wastes atop Nagarmalai here on Saturday.

During a trekking expedition last week, the personnel found heaps of plastic waste dumped by devotees on the hilltop. They decided to clear the garbage and sought permission from the City Police Commissioner.

On Saturday, a team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Armed Reserve Police, C. R. Nagaraj, along with 100 armed reserve personnel and 60 home guards personnel cleaned the area for over five hours.

The collected waste materials were taken to the foothills for proper disposal. The officials said that last year they had cleaned the premises of Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital.
