Marriage of minor girl stoppped in village

A marriage arranged between a minor girl and a young man, in Saavalpoondi village near here on Friday was stopped in the last minute.

Based on information received Collector A. Gnanasekaran alerted the officials about the marriage between a 16-year-old girl, a Plus-Two student, and a man of marriageable man.

District Social Welfare Officer S. Umaiyal, All Women Police Station Inspector Meena and other officials rushed to Saavalpoondi, spoke to both families and persuaded them to give up the marriage plan.

The bride has been sent to a children home near here for counselling.
