The Childline team of BOSCO has been flooded with calls from people across the city who wish to adopt the baby girl who was found abandoned in a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus at Kempegowda Bus Station on Sunday. However, it may take another three months at least for the baby to be cleared for adoption.

The three-month-old is now under the care of the State-run Shishu Mandira, as per the directions of the Child Welfare Committee.

According to Fr. Thomas of BOSCO, many people have come forward to adopt the baby after news of her being abandoned spread. Jennifer Y., coordinator of Childline, said around 50 calls were received on Sunday alone. On Monday, they got around 30 calls.

Produced before CWC

The baby has been produced before the CWC even as no one has come forward to claim her.

As per procedure, a medical check-up will be conducted. “CWC may put out advertisements about the baby in hope that the parents or relatives come forward to claim her. If no one comes forward in three months, the baby will be cleared for adoption,” she said. Ms. Jennifer also said after the baby is put up for adoption, she may go to a couple that has already registered for adoption. Meanwhile, the Upparpet police have intensified the probe to identify the baby’s parents.

The police are verifying CCTV footage obtained from the bus station to identify the person(s) who abandoned the baby.

They have also gathered CCTV records from the route the bus took before reaching the bus station.

So far, no one has come forward to claim the baby.
