Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has urged the electorate to vote for the DMK-led front to facilitate continuance of welfare schemes being implemented in the State.
He was campaigning for Congress candidate and sitting MLA C. Gnanasekaran on Mundy Street here on Friday.
Mr. Stalin said that Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had fulfilled all electoral promises made by him in the 2006 elections. Out of the four lakh concrete houses to be built under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme, three lakh structures were nearing completion. Identity cards were given to all beneficiaries to enable them to avail themselves of the scheme after the formation of the new government in the firm belief that the DMK would retain power after the elections.
Mr. Stalin sought support for Mr. Gananasekaran on the strength of his achievements, which included forceful arguments and persistent representations on behalf of the people in the Assembly, leading to the upgrading of Vellore Municipality into a Corporation, and the launching of the Rs.1295-crore Vellore Integrated Water Supply Scheme of bringing water from the Cauvery. Later, he campaigned for DMK candidate and Law Minister Durai Murugan at Shenbakkam in Katpadi constituency.
Earlier, Mr. Stalin campaigned for VCK candidate S. Chellapandian in Arakkonam, Congress candidate Arul Anbarasu in Sholinghur and Ranipet candidate R. Gandhi in Ranipet and Melvisharam and PMK candidate K.L. Elavazagan in Arcot.
