A Mahila Court here has sentenced a person to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a three-year-old-girl.

According to prosecution, Raman Sharma, a migrant labourer from Uttar Pradesh, was living in Aminjikarai. On December 4, 2011, he lured the girl with Rs.2 while she was playing just a few yards away from his house. After taking her to his quarters, he sexually assaulted her. She was rescued by her mother and neighbours. They handed over the suspect to the police station. He was charged under 376(F) (rape on a woman when she is under twelve years of age) of Indian Penal Code.

Holding Sharma guilty, Meena Sateesh, Judge of the Mahila Court, said the prosecution had established the case against him through medical evidence and witnesses. Apart from sentencing him to a seven-year prison term, she imposed fine of Rs.10,000 on him.
