In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old man, R. Muniyasamy, murdered his daughter Karishma (6) by drowning her in an irrigation tank here on Monday. However, his 8-year-old son Vijayakumar managed to escape.

Police said Munisamy, who was living in Pallapatti, had a quarrel with his wife Arunadevi on Monday morning. The woman left home for work in a fireworks unit.

A dejected Muniyasamy took his son, who had been bitten by a dog, to a hospital for treatment. On the way back to home, he took Vijayakumar and Karishma to Kadabankulam tank. When he tried to push Vijayakumar into the tank, he escaped and fled from the scene.

However, Muniyasamy drowned Karishma in the tank.

As people in the locality raised an alarm, Muniyasamy fled from the scene and surrendered before the police in Sattur.

Sivakasi East police are investigating.
