Man crushed under private bus

Rangasamy (65) of Poolampatty died on the spot when he came under the rear wheel of a private school bus at Edappadi on Thursday. The incident occurred when the victim was trying to step out of the bus after dropping his 13-year-old grand daughter at a school in Mettur. The driver Murugesan (38) failed to notice him stepping out and moved the bus. In the impact, Rangasamy lost control and was crushed under the rear wheel. The body was sent to the Government Hospital in Edappadi. The police arrested Murugesan. An alternative bus was brought from the school and the students were transported.

Protest staged

Stating that the house owner is refusing to return the lease money of Rs. 1 lakh, Yasmin of Vazhapadi staged protest in front of the police station here on Thursday. She said that she had given Rs. 1 lakh as lease money to Sekar, who is AIADMK ward secretary in Vazhapadi Town Panchayat. After the lease period of two years was completed, Yasmin requested Sekar to return the money as she is ready to vacate the house. But, he failed to return the money. Hence, Yasmin along with her three children staged protest in front of Vazhapadi police station. Police personnel pacified her and assured to take action. Later she left.

Students block NH

Students belonging to Tamil Nadu Malai Kuravan community blocked the Salem – Attur National Highway in Indira Nagar on Thursday demanding community certificates. Parents also joined the protest. However, police personnel assured to take action and the protest was withdrawn. Traffic resumed after 20 minutes.
