The crime branch police on Tuesday arrested S. Natarajan (43) on the charge of duping a medical aspirant of Rs. 7 lakh by promising him a seat in a private college. The accused had allegedly duped people to the tune of Rs. 5 crore.
Deputy Commissioner of Police P. Sundaravadivel told The Hindu that the accused, along with Srinivasan and his wife Sreedevi from Bengaluru, advertised online in the name of consulting firm headquartered at Bengaluru and having a branch office at Coimbatore.
They offered MBBS seats to the tune of Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh, he said. The DCP said that Srinivasan had already been arrested recently in Bengaluru.
“Nagarajan was arrested following a complaint from Raghu, a Tirupur resident, that the firm obtained Rs. 7 lakh in two instalments, one by cheque and other through electronic transfer of funds, promising to arrange medical seat for his daughter.
“However, the accused did not stick to the promise and instead demanded Rs. 3 lakh,” he added.
