R. Rajasekar, 31, of Thirupulivanam in Uthiramerur taluk, lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police, Kancheepuram, on Wednesday that he and his father, Rajendran, 52, were brutally assaulted by the Uthiramerur police. .

In his complaint, Rajasekar said that he, his brother Velayutham and their father were released on conditional bail in connection with a case registered by a relative . They were signing a record book at the Uthiramerur police station from July 19.

He said that on July 23 two police personnel had taken Rajendran to the police station who did not return home. On the midnight of same day, the police asked Rajasekar to accompany them stating that they wanted to interrogate him in connection with a murder case.

Rajasekar claimed that the police took him to Perunagar police station instead of Uthiramerur and brutally assaulted him. He also said that he saw his fathter lying in the cell at the police station the next morning.

In the meantime, Velayutham, after ascertaining the fact that his father and brother had been kept at Perunagar police station, came to the station along with a lawyer, which resulted in the release of Rajasekar.

When the brothers wanted their father also to be released, they were informed that Rajendran had been admitted to a hospital owing to ill health. When the family members went a private hospital at Chengalpattu, they saw Rajendran was lying in an unconscious state with bandages on his left leg and body.

Rajendran, who regained consciousness on July 31, narrated what had happened to him. Meanwhile, the hospital authorities had informed the family members that he could not move out of the bed as he had suffered fractures on his backbone.

CPI (M) activist V.Prameela, who accompanied Rajasekar, demanded that the police personnel be booked on murder charges and under the provisions of Prevention of Atrocities Act as the affected members were Dalits.
