A major fire that erupted in Corporation’s dump yard at Vendipalayam on Monday evening has been spreading fast.
A large number of Fire and Rescue Services personnel are involved in extinguishing the fire.

Fire occurs at the garbage dump almost every year, warranting fire fighting for a few days at a stretch.
The fire at present would take at least one week to extinguish with utilisation of 10 fire tenders, official sources said. The priority of the fire-fighters was to prevent the flames from spreading and cooling the burnt spots, an official said.
