The Mahasamprokshanam of Kalamega Perumal Temple at Tirumogur near here will be performed on November 1 between 8.30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Renovation works to the tune of over Rs. 3 crore have been undertaken in the last one and a half years.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, R. Sudarshan, Joint Commissioner (Madurai Region), the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, said that yagasala puja with 28 homa kundams would commence on October 28.

All the kalasams of the temple towers and the ‘kodi maram’ will be covered with gold before the event. A total of 3.65 kilograms of gold have been procured at a cost of Rs. 60 lakh, he said.

The vimanam of Lord Chakrapani will use a total of 10 kg of gold at a cost of Rs. 2 crore, said A.P. Ragupathy, president of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Apthan Kaingarya Sabha. The Sabha was also involved in the Mahasamprokshanam besides raising donations.

S. Jagannathan, Executive Officer of the temple, said that donors were major contributors for the event. All the renovation works would be completed before the grand event.

S. Sridhar Bhattar and S. Gopal Bhattar, secretary and treasurer, respectively, of the Sabha, were also present along with Rajathi Ragupathy, chairperson, board of trustees for the temple, and other trustees, S. Sudarshan, A. Duraipandian, K. Thangamani Karuppiah and V.K.P.N. Bhaskaran.
