Infuriated by a man’s claim that he is the biological son of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and late Telugu film actor Shoban Babu, Justice R. Mahadevan of the Madras High Court on Friday warned, “I can send you straightaway to jail.”

When a petition filed by J. Krishnamoorthy was taken by the court for deciding its maintainability, Justice Mahadevan said, “The documents [submitted by the petitioner] have been clearly fabricated. Even if the documents are placed before an LKG student he/she would say that they are fabricated. You have attached a photo available in public domain.”

The petitioner claimed that AIADMK founder and former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) had signed as a witness in his adoption deed. The judge pointed out that “MGR was not able to move even his hand around the time the document was allegedly prepared.”

The judge then gave oral instructions to the petitioner to appear before the Chennai City Commissioner of Police on Saturday, and hand over the original documents for verification. The judge directed the Commissioner to verify the genuineness of the documents and file a report in the court by next Friday.

Birth and adoption

According to Krishnamoorthy, who appeared as party in person, he was born to Jayalalithaa and Shoban Babu on February 15, 1985 in Bengaluru. But later, due to difference of opinion, his parents separated and he was subsequently given in adoption to a couple in Erode.

To substantiate his claim, he submitted certain documents, including a deed of adoption. He claimed that he was frequently in touch with Jayalalithaa and that he had visited her several times.

“In September, 2016 when I went to meet her in Veda Nilayam [Jayalalithaa’s house], she told me that she had plans to introduce me to the public as her son. But V. K. Sasikala [jailed AIADMK leader] opposed the decision and quarrelled with her,” he claimed.

Subsequent to the incident only Jayalalithaa was admitted in Apollo Hospitals and declared dead on December 5, 2016, he alleged.

Claiming that Sasikala and her relatives kept him in illegal custody and prevented him from participating in Jayalalithaa's funeral, he submitted that he escaped from them and has come to the court seeking a direction to the DGP to provide him protection.

Justice Mahadevan also censured social activist ‘Traffic’ K.R. Ramaswamy, who accompanied the petitioner and sought to know his role in the plea.
