The lock-out declared in Tuticorin Alkali Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (TAC), which produces soda ash, ammonium chloride and other chemicals, was lifted here on Thursday.

The company was closed in the early hours of June 27 citing financial crunch. Following this, employees agitated and termed it as an ‘illegal closure’. The locked company was opened at 5.45 p.m. in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of Labour, Tirunelveli Region, S. Thangappan, company Director and employees union of TAC.

Mr. Thangappan said a meeting between the management personnel and the employees was convened in the evening hours of Thursday and based on the outcome the management lifted the lock-out. The employees had been asked not to disturb the management personnel at any cost and for any problem and solution could be reached through talks, Mr. Thangappan said. Siva. Duraiarasan, President, TAC Employees Union, said it was a temporary relief, but the management was non-committal about resuming production.
