Students, and research scholars of Periyar University took out a rally to mark the International Literacy Day on the university premises on Tuesday.
The rally was organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell to create an awareness about the ‘Education for all’ policy of both the Union and the State Governments.
M. Manivannan, Registrar of the university, flagged off the rally. S. Leela, Controller of Examinations, and heads of various departments were present. The students carried placards and banners with slogans such as ‘Education is not a preparation for life, education is life itself,’ ‘A book is the most effective weapon against intolerance and ignorance,’ written on them. The students and teachers took a pledge that they will do everything possible to eradicate illiteracy.
