Alleging that cadre belonging to the ruling party are indulging in malpractices and selling liquor from State-owned Tasmac shops in the black market, PMK leader S. Ramadoss has urged the State government to crack down on such practices.
“While on the one hand, the government is making efforts to relocate liquor shops on highways as per the Supreme Court verdict, on the other, the ruling party members are selling liquor from these shops in nearby areas,” he said in a statement.
The PMK leader added that while Tasmac shops should only sell liquor in small quantities, in many places, people were buying liquor in crates and selling them near liquor shops that have been closed. “This is happening with the knowledge of the police. In many places, liquor shops are opened well ahead of the designated time on the pretext of managing the crowd, and liquor is being sold to people who are below 21 years of age,” he alleged.
Besides, despite a direction from the High Court that CCTV cameras be set up in Tasmac outlets, the State government is yet to comply with this directive.
