Life term for building contractor

The Mahila Court here has sentenced a building contractor to life imprisonment for murdering a woman construction worker.

According to prosecution, Eugene Jose (37), a building contractor from Kollamvilai near Reethapuram in the district, started living with construction worker Poonkodi (32) of Salem after deserting his wife. When an altercation between Eugene and Poonkodi broke out on March 24, 2011, he attacked the woman with a log. After being admitted to a private hospital at Colachel, Poonkodi died on the same day. Mahila Court Judge Muthu Saradha awarded life imprisonment to Eugene and imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 on Tuesday.
