Land identified to house offices of new taluks

September 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated November 01, 2016 08:46 pm IST - ERODE:

The district administration has identified land for construction of new offices for the newly-carved Kodumudi, Modakurichi and Thalavadi taluks.

Offices of the new taluks formed last year had been functioning out of private buildings: a marriage hall at Kodumudi, a community centre at Modakurichi and a government building at Thalavadi: with staff transferred from other places.

Kodumudi and Modakurichi blocks were carved out of Erode taluk, and Thalavadi taluk was carved out of Sathy.

Incidentally, Erode district alone was sanctioned three new taluks out of 20 for the entire State.

Formation of the new taluks had been a long-felt need, since the public had to travel for long distances for certifications.

Particularly, in Thalavadi, the people are immensely relieved as they do not have to spend an entire day travelling to Sathyamangalam and back.

Bus

It was not just the distance, the frequency of buses was also inadequate. For creation of Thalavadi taluk, the State government had relaxed the population norm.

There was the same kind of relief for people in and around Anthiyur when a new taluk, carved out of Gobi and Bhavani taluks, was headquartered there during 2012 with jurisdiction over four blocks: Anthihyur, Athani, Burgur and Ammapet.

The State government announced sanction of funds for construction of the three new taluk offices recently. The construction work will be quickened, official sources said.
