The Madurai district police on Wednesday registered a land grab case against former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri in connection with a 44-cent land belonging to Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) at Sivarakottai near Tirumangalam.
Though none of the officials were willing to share the information on record, a police source confirmed registration of the case under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating and forgery. The HR and CE officials inspected the land near Dhaya College of Engineering, owned by the family members of Mr. Alagiri, at Sivarakottai in June following a complaint made by M. Ramalingam, president of Madurai District Farmers’ Welfare Association.
Mr. Ramalingam complained that Mr. Alagiri, had “grabbed” the land by “purchasing” fake documents. He had handed over the complaint to Collector L. Subramanian. After inspection, the HR and CE officials had fenced the land.
