One of the men arrested by the Kerala police for his alleged role in the murder of a security guard at the Kodanad Estate and the subsequent burglary committed at the bungalow of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa was handed over to the Tamil Nadu police and brought to Kotagiri in the early hours of Tuesday.
Police sources said that the accused, Manoj alias Valayaar, from Thrissur, was brought to the Kotagiri police station, where his statement was recorded by the Nilgiris district police.
He was then taken to the Kodanad Estate where the sequence of events that transpired on the night of April 23 and early hours of April 24 were reconstructed by the police.
Manoj was then produced before a judge in Kotagiri and remanded in judicial custody. He will be lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
SP visits Edappadi
Mr. Rambha later visited Edappadi in Salem, where Jayalalithaa’s former driver and prime accused in the case C. Kanagaraj used to reside.
The Superintendent of Police conducted inquiries with the family members of Kanagaraj, who was killed in an accident near Attur a few days ago.
Among those inquired by him was Kanagaraj’s wife Kalaivani.
The SP refused to comment on the visit though sources said he had searched Kanagaraj’s house. He might visit the other accused Sayan who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Coimbatore.
Meanwhile, a police team from Kerala arrived at the private hospital for recording his statement.
