Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi should publicly apologise and tender his resignation, said Subramanian Swamy, president, Janata Party, here on Saturday.

In a statement, Dr. Swamy said the Chief Minister had let down the people of Tamil Nadu on the Mullaperiyar water level issue.

Mr. Karunanidhi called an all-party meeting after he took over as the Chief Minister. Dr. Swamy said that he attended the meeting in which he made a plea that under the order of the Supreme Court, the Tamil Nadu government could go and close the shutters to raise the water level. But he did not listen, Dr. Swamy added.
