Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Saturday condoled the death of Angidi Veeriah Chettiar, Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius.

In a letter sent to Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of Republic of Mauritius, the Chief Minister described the Vice-President as a great patriot of Mauritius and a true friend of India-Mauritius relations. He was singularly interested in the development of India-Mauritius relations and paid particular attention to the ongoing cooperation between Tamil Nadu and the Republic of Mauritius.

“I have had the privilege of meeting him on all the occasions during his many visits to Chennai. I fondly recall his love for further deepening and consolidation of the friendship and fraternal relations between our two countries and people,” he said in the letter. He requested the Prime Minister of Mauritius to convey his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Angiri Veeriah Chettiar. He also expressed his condolences to the friendly people of the island nation.

Correction:

The second paragraph quoted Navinchandra Ramgoolam as Prime Minister of Republic of Maldives. He is the prime minister of Mauritius. The error is corrected.
