Kanimozhi campaigns in Kanyakumari

April 04, 2011 02:26 am | Updated 02:26 am IST - Nagercoil:

The DMK government headed by M. Karunanidhi had implemented various welfare and developmental schemes for the benefit of people in the last five years and to continue them in future, Kanimozhi, Member of Parliament, appealed to the electorate to cast their votes in favour of DMK and its allies.

Starting her election campaign at Oorampu near Kollencode (Kanyakumari-Kerala border) on Sunday she said that contrary to the statement made by the general secretary of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Jayalalithaa, in her recent campaign in the district that adequate fund would be allotted for the construction of Marshal Nesamony Manimandapam if AIADMK came to power, the DMK regime has already allotted the sum of Rs.48 lakh for it. Hence her allegation was baseless. Marshal Nesamony was instrumental in the merger of Kanyakumari district to Tamil Nadu. Moreover she criticized the double stand taken by the Bharatiya Janata Party in connection with demanding the educational assistance to the Hindu students on par with the assistance extended to the students of minority communities in the State. She also listed out various welfare and developmental schemes which were implemented in the State for the benefit of people irrespective caste, creed and religion. Hence in order to ensure communal harmony in the state she appealed the voters to cast their votes in favour of DMK. She campaigned for DMK and its allies in more than 15 places particularly the coastal areas of the district except few urban areas.
