Manithaneya Makkal Katchi legislature party leader M.H. Jawahirullah has expressed disappointment that the former President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s plea for an additional train to Chennai from Rameswaram was ignored in the budget.
In a statement, the local MLA said Mr. Kalam, during the centenary celebrations of the Pamban Bridge early this year, had requested the Railways to introduce one more train to Chennai. He had also suggested that the train be named as Pamban express and it have a refrigerator coach for transporting fish from the island to the mainland.
‘No mention of new line’People of the southern districts were disappointed as there was no mention of the much-awaited Karaikudi-Tuticorin new line project, he said.
