The Supreme Court on Monday asked the two Chief Ministers to resolve the Cauvery row in an amicable manner
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa will visit Bangalore on Thursday to discuss Cauvery dispute with Karnataka Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar.
Announcing her trip, an official release issued here on Tuesday stated that this was in pursuance of the Supreme Court's suggestion on Monday that the two leaders meet and resolve the Cauvery dispute. The Court was hearing a petition filed by the Tamil Nadu government. The petition sought release of Cauvery water as per a distress sharing formula.
The case will come up before the Court again for hearing on Friday.
Keywords: Cauvery river row, TN-Karnataka water issue

At a time when the States desire to get the disputes like sharing of water etc., through the legal route so as to protect themselves from accusations from the Opposition parties, the advice of the Apex Court in respect of the Cauvery water dispute that both the CMs of the Tamilnadu and Karnataka must talk it over and settle the same amicably comes as a surprise. The dispute is as broader and longer than the Cauvery river itself and despite best efforts of the Apex Court and also the constitution of a separate authority [Cauvery River Authority] headed by the PM, a solution to the vexed issue is eluding. Now that the Apex Court has wriggled out of the issue by asking both the States to come to an understanding themselves, it remains to be seen how the situation develops further. Both the CMs must involve the principal opposition parties of States in the talks and if necessary, the team must comprise of members from the delta region.
Hope she convinces Shettar and gets water as she wanted.
