Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Saturday termed the reduction of Rs.2 per litre of petrol as “eyewash” and demanded a complete rollback.
In a statement issued here on Friday, Ms. Jayalalithaa said the hike in the price of petrol to the tune of Rs.7.50 per litre had caused immense burden on the people, particularly the poor and middle class.
Complete rollback
The announcement of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government that the price of petrol would be decreased at the rate of Rs.2 per litre with effect from midnight on Saturday was of no use to the common man.
Saying that the partial cut in the price of petrol would not ease the burden on the people, the Chief Minister called for a complete rollback.

oh.. again.. i couldnt understand .. why our CM is seeing everything negative in Central's proposals.. if she really worrying for the fellow citizens of state., she can reduce the Taxes., which will benefit our state..
Madam, in that event Govt of TN should forgo the additional revenue generated in the form of Sales Tax. Your govt is benefitted by way of increased revenue in Sales Tax. If the concern is genuine the ST should be reduced..!! An example has been set by your natural ally, in Goa..!!
It is not understood under what moral strength jayalalitha is faulting the partial reduction of petrol price as an eye wash and demanding for a complete rollback when she raised the electric, transport and milk charges overnight simultaneously beyond the reach of poor common man. One should practice the same before he/she preaches to the others. It appears that she has conveniently forgotten this cardinal principle.
