Jayalalithaa announces Rs. 1 crore solatium for slain head constable's kin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday announced Rs. one crore solatium to the family of Head Constable C. Munusamy, who was stabbed to death by a gang of chain snatchers in Hosur.

She told the Assembly that the State government would also bear the educational expenses of his daughter Rekshana.

The Chief Minister said she had directed the Chief Secretary to make amendments to the existing government order to increase the solatium to the policemen who were killed or injured while performing their duty.

Ms. Jayalalithaa said even though Munusamy’s family was given Rs. five lakh, she was of the firm opinion the amount was inadequate.

Munusamy, attached to the Hosur Sipcot police station was stabbed to death when he along with a team of policemen went in pursuit of chain snatchers in U. Sigiripalli area.
