The Consulate General of Japan at Chennai presented certificates of commendation to three individuals in the field of martial arts, here on Wednesday. The commendation was awarded to Rajagopal C.S., vice-president of Tamil Nadu Judo Association, A.S. Krishnamurthy, founder and president of International Tai-Iku Kai Karate and Kobudo Self Defence Training School, and Haribabu Subramaniam, president and technical director, Shorei-kan Karate-Do Asia H.Q. Seiji Baba, Consul General of Japan in Chennai, presented the certificates.

He said: “This is to appreciate their contribution to the field of Japanese martial arts.” Mr. Rajagopal said he had been promoting judo in India for a long time and recalled the days when he was invited by the Japan foundation for training in that country. Mr. Krishnamurthy, said that till date, his training school had produced more than 15 world champions. “I started teaching martial arts in 1981. I have lived in Japan to learn the art and then introduced it to the Indian people,” Mr. Haribabu, said.

The Consul General’s Commendations are awarded to individuals, organisations with outstanding achievements.
