A team of Japanese consultants visited the AMRL Multiproduct Special Economic Zone at Nanguneri on Saturday and were impressed with its “highly accessible location” and the infrastructure created .

“This will be the right investment destination for Japanese companies and we will strongly recommend AMRL Multiproduct SEZ to Japanese industrialists scouting for investment opportunities in India,” the consultants from Nomura Research Institute India Private Limited said after the visit.

A team of experts from the Tokyo-based Nomura Research Institute’s Gurgaon branch visited the SEZ. It offers research and consulting services in developing business and sales strategies in local markets, human resource management, implementing merger and acquisition strategies and issue policy recommendations for government and international institutions .

The Japanese consultants, after visiting the Tuticorin Port, drove down to the Nanguneri SEZ to assess the infrastructure created on the 2,520 acres acquired for the multiproduct special economic zone. While 1,780 acres have been earmarked for industrial investments, social infrastructure will come up on 740 acres.

“The four-lane highway connecting the seaport and the SEZ is quite good and there is no traffic jam at any point, which made our hour-long travel pleasant. I could see good number of engineering colleges en route which gives me the message that availability of skilled workforce in this region for any task would be good,” Sonny Kim, vice-president, Nomura Research Institute India Private Limited, told The Hindu after going around the SEZ.

Besides inspecting the huge sump under construction for storage of water and the 110/11-KV sub-station on the SEZ complex, Mr. Sonny and his team also visited a LED lamps manufacturing unit and interacted with the personnel there.

About the SEZ, the Japanese delegates said that the infrastructure created on the SEZ complex, including power, water, roads, security etc., the environment and weather were good.

“I will strongly recommend this SEZ with high potential among the Japanese investors, who are looking for the right opportunities for making wise overseas investments,” Mr. Sonny said.

Senior Managing Consultant of Nomura Research Institute India Private Limited Hikojiro Isozaki echoed Mr. Sonny’s views. “Though this SEZ is quite new to Japanese investors, we will recommend this place to our clients in our country,” he said.

Buoyed by the positive response from the Japanese consultants, president of AMRL Hitech City N. Eswar Rao has planned to visit Japan along with his team on October 4 for organising a road show to promote the SEZ.
