AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Wednesday expressed the hope that it will be a landslide victory for her party in the Assembly elections.
“I am confident that people will give us a decisive mandate and a clear majority to rule. I am confident that our alliance partners will also do very well,” she told reporters after casting her vote at Stella Maris College here.
People of the State wanted “a change of government,” as they were totally “disgusted and fed up with all-pervasive corruption, price rise, breakdown in law and order, nepotism, total misrule and non governance.”
“Although vast sums of money have been thrown around in this election — my information is that Rs.5,000 crore is being spent by the DMK — still it will not have any impact on the people,” she said, stressing that they were determined to vote out the DMK and bring in an AIADMK regime.
To a question on how many seats the DMK will secure in the elections, she said, “Wait until May 13 and you will know the answer.”
Asked whether the Election Commission (EC) was able to counter money power in this election, she said though the EC had managed to seize Rs.50 crore, this was only a tip of the iceberg. “The actual amount in circulation is Rs.5,000 crore.”
Ms. Jayalalithaa said that she was not concerned about money power, because the people were determined to bring in change. “They want the present government go. They want Mr. Karunanidhi's family to go. And they want the AIADMK to form the government.”
Ms. Jayalalithaa felt that the 2G spectrum scam would “most certainly” have an impact on both rural and urban voters. “Not just 2G scam alone, which involves Rs.1.80 lakh crore. There are various scams people are very well aware of.”
