“Many Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) workers who had pasted posters hailing me were suspended from the party…Is this an offence,” asked M.K. Alagiri, former Union Minister and Madurai Lok Sabha MP, who was removed from the post of south zone organising secretary and also suspended by the party high command recently.
Speaking at a marriage of a party functionary and his loyalist here on Wednesday, Mr. Alagiri said “during my trip abroad, I heard about the suspension of as many as 10 functionaries and I enquired went to the party president to inquire about it on my return. I expected justice from the leader. But after a pause, I too was suspended again for reasons not known.”
The former minister said the party men (placed under suspension) had done no crime or indulged in any anti-party activities. They had just pasted posters informing public about my much publicised interview to a private television channel, for which, they were axed. “Nobody in any party should suffer such humiliation,” he said. At a time, when elections to the Lok Sabha are fast approaching, such intra-party actions may affect the prospects of candidates badly, Mr. Alagiri said and added that the high command had given him the post of south zone organising secretary and taken away on their own.
‘Want to continue to serve’“Whether in power or not, I wish to continue to serve the cadre and the needy,” he said amid cheers.
